OUR VISION

Local community resources & networking opportunities for caregivers

The mission of the Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair is to provide a “one stop shop” means of support and empowerment to benefit the health and well-being of caregivers in Stanislaus County. The fair is tailored to caregivers but seniors, veterans, and others in the community may find support at the fair as well.

The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair offers the opportunity for caregivers to talk and discuss resource availability directly with leaders in the caregiving and aging community and to attend free educational workshops, which research shows is one of the most effective forms of stress relief for caregivers.

We encourage local organizations to come and offer a variety of resources that are directly related to caregiving including but certainly not limited to keeping the care recipient safe at home, managing emotional and physical stresses of caregiving, making end-of-life decisions, managing care recipient’s challenging behaviors, managing care recipient’s incontinence problems, and finding non-English language educational materials.

Making it easy for caregivers to tap into local resources & services

Team work

Research supports that caregivers feel empowered when they feel that the mental labor they put into caregiving is recognized and valued and when others make them feel that their job is meaningful. We try to meet these needs by offering a variety of different vendors ranging from self-care resources like pet therapy, painting classes, or essential oils to advice about in-home care, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities and even finance, funeral planning, and Medical and insurance representatives.

Helping caregivers feel recognized and valued and that their job is meaningful

doing work together

The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair is planned collaboratively with a planning committee made up of caregivers and leaders in the caregiving community. Anyone can attend the meetings and contribute to the planning process. The goal of the collaborative approach to planning this event is to ensure that the resources and services offered at the event are relevant to caregivers, action-oriented, and practical.

The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair started off as Krystal Irwin's MSW (Master of Social Work) graduate project and turned into an annual event due to the high need in the community. Krystal graduated with her MSW in the Spring of 2017 and remains the project coordinator for the event. Check out her Master Thesis titled Meeting the needs of those who serve Stanislaus County's seniors: 1st annual Stanislaus County caregiver resource fair by clicking the "Masters Thesis" link below.
