OUR VISION

Local community resources & networking opportunities
for caregivers

The mission of the Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair is to provide a “one stop shop” means of support and empowerment to benefit the health and well-being of all caregivers in Stanislaus County. The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair offers the opportunity for caregivers to talk and discuss resource availability directly with leaders and social workers in the caregiving and aging community and to attend free seminars with social workers, which research shows is one of the most effective forms of stress relief for caregivers (1).

Meet Krystal Irwin, MSW

RESEARCH & PRACTICE
The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair started off as Krystal Irwin's MSW (Master of Social Work) graduate project and turned into an annual event due to the high need in the community. Krystal graduated with her MSW in the Spring of 2017 and remains the project coordinator for the event.

"Everyone was so nice and helpful. Teri’s talk on ‘grief and loss

in dementia’ was amazing.

Thank you!”

RESOURCES & SERVICES

Making it easy for caregivers to tap into local resources & services

We use a resource fair as a method of meeting caregivers’ needs because it is an effective way of sharing what research shows caregivers need, in terms of information and support (1). We encourage local organizations to come and offer varied resources that are directly related to caregiving including but certainly not limited to keeping the care recipient safe at home, managing emotional and physical stresses of caregiving, making end-of-life decisions, managing care recipient’s challenging behaviors, managing care recipient’s incontinence problems, and finding non-English language educational materials.

EMPOWERMENT

Making caregivers feel recognized and valued and that their job is meaningful

Research supports that caregivers feel empowered when they feel that the mental labor they put into caregiving is recognized and valued and when others make them feel that their job is meaningful (2). The Stanislaus County Caregiver Resource Fair makes caregivers feel recognized and valued by offering a variety of different vendors ranging from things like pet therapy, painting classes, or essential oils to in-home care, assisted living and skilled nursing facilities and even Medical representatives. The planning committee strives to bring a wide array of resources to the fair to allow caregivers who have multiple questions to get their needs met all in one place, all at one time.
